Personal Summary
My name is Dr. Chelsea Leahy, but feel free to call me Chelsea. I grew up in the suburbs of Rochester, NY and attended Roberts Wesleyan College for my undergraduate studies. I then moved to Syracuse to pursue my doctorate at Upstate Medical University.
Although I love physical therapy, I also enjoy providing non-traditional services such as nutritional consultation and athletic performance evaluation. I have merged my practice of physical therapy with wellness care to provide sustainable action to individuals with reachable goals - whether an expedition up Mt. Everest, or just being able to be comfortable on the floor playing with grandchildren.
I enjoy spending time with my husband John and my dogs Toby and Daisy. I am excited to be a resident of Oneonta and bring a service I truly believe can improve the wellness of those living in Oneonta, NY and the surrounding region.
In my spare time, you may find me rooting for the Buffalo Bills, serving at my church, or enjoying a variety of types of exercise including hiking, tennis, pickleball, weightlifting, and running.
Discovering Physical Therapy
During February break of my second year of college, I had the tremendous opportunity to go on my first missions trip abroad - to Guatemala (thanks to the works of my roommate prayerfully fundraising the full cost of the trip for me). On this trip there was a retired physical therapist on the team who worked with some of the children at the orphanage we were working at. I had the chance to observe her treatments and with one particular boy, witnessed a transformation that I would never forget. This 3-year-old boy, who had been malnourished, went from being immobile to being able to walk with holding just my pinky. As he discovered his newfound ability to get up and play with others, a joy that was previously absent from him, emanated in the greatest smile I’ve seen. It was in that moment that I discovered the transformative power of physical therapy.
That same transformative power that I experienced with that little boy, is one that I desire for each of my clients. In working together, my goal is to offer empowerment to unleash your full potential and get back to the activities you love through the natural power of your own body.
